I am often asked by prospective buyers, “What is the perfect cruising boat?” The answer, of course will vary depending on size, intended use, budget, and other factors. But for a cruising couple who is looking for an easily handled, seaworthy, well-constructed pocket trawler with beautiful classic lines and great fuel economy– VOYAGEUR would be hard to beat!
In the 1980s the University of British Columbia commissioned physicists, naval architects, and engineers to conceive of a hull form based on purely scientific considerations such as fluid dynamics, sea conditions, and a modern diesel propulsion engine. The result was a revolutionary Keelform hull that launched he famous line of Camano Yachts in 1988. This revolutionary semi-displacement planing hull design, (which will be discussed in the Full Specs & videos,) is what gives this yacht her exceptional seakindness and outstanding fuel economy.
VOYAGER comes to the market in Bristol Condition and loaded with options:

---|
Accommodations are as open as possible – the salon measures 8-feet, 10-inches by 10 feet and is on the same level as the aft deck which is 40 square feet. Very large main salon with lower helm and a comfortable helm seat located forward to starboard. Aft and to port is an L-shaped settee with hi-low table. Two custom round tables are included and can be installed in place of the rectangular salon table. The large opening salon windows provide unlimited visibility and light with an open feeling. Custom burled woodwork throughout. The entire salon has sliding curtains for complete privacy as well as protection from the sun. The aft salon door provides access to the cockpit and swim platform. The lower helm station is located to starboard and includes the original captain’s chair and an optional folding captain’s chair that, when folded, provides increased space in the salon. Forward and down one step is the galley to port. The galleys design and location provides a feeling of space and light and is fully equipped with refrigerator, stainless steel sink, two burner propane stove and ample storage. Across from the galley is the enclosed head with marine toilet and shower. Forward of the galley you will find a very spacious v-berth. Custom under-floor storage provides additional storage. |

One of the great features of the Camano is its large and very bright salon. With excellent visibility and ventilation, Marine Air 16,000 BTU air conditioning, and 360 degree visibility, the salon is comfortable in all conditions. The L-shaped settee converts to a double berth. Added options include both the standard rectangular salon table and two custom round tables that can be installed in place of the large table. Curtains and custom sun screens are on side windows.

Hull & Deck Gear |
Unique KEELform hull design eliminates bow wave for increased performance throughout the speed range to 14 knots. (See performance videos and expanded discussion following.) Stainless steel stern and hand rails add to the elegance of the design. The laminate schedule is refreshingly traditional. Hand laid mat and rovings are utilized for superior strength. Carbon fiber is used along with mat and rovings in thicknesses as great as one inch. Above the waterline, hull sides are foam cored for maximum durability, insulation and strength. Keel is reinforced and all bulkheads are completely joined, encapsulated and finished with the highest quality materials. The engine room is sound proofed and powder coating is utilized on all aluminum surfaces such as the window frames and cabin door. Three sliding windows are provided, with extra thick safety glass for durability. Engine room has an automatic Fireboy fire suppression stem installed.

Additional- Keelform Hull Information |
The Keelform hull has displacement sections forward and planing sections aft not an uncommon design feature. Most PT and Air Sea Rescue boats during World War II were designed that way, as are many current semi-displacements hulls. Most such hulls have little or no keel, and those that do, use it only for directional control. Camano, however, takes that basic hull shape and applies its own unique touch: displacement keel sections that float about 25 percent of the hulls weight. These keels sections are far enough under water, however, that they do not produce a bow wave! Since there is no bow wave to overcome, the vessel is allowed to move smoothly through its speed range without the stern squat that many semi-displacement hulls experience as they throttle up. The Keelform hull, therefore, uses less fuel for the same speed as most other boats in its class. The hull design provides good handling and stability through the boats entire speed range, to 14 knots. The Keelform hull brings other advantages to the table as well. Its the ideal place to put the engine, and an engine placed low in the boat significantly lowers the center of gravity which reduces rolling in beam seas. It also reduces the down angle of the shaft to improve the efficiency of the propulsion system. The shaft, because more of it runs inside the keel than in other boats in this class, is less likely to get whacked by driftwood or other flotsam which often proliferates popular waterways. |
