RECENT BOTTOM JOB/ HULL INSPECTION AUGUST 30, 2017, THIS BOAT NEEDS SOME MINOR COSMETICS BUT IS READY TO CRUISE. CURRENT OWNER HAS INVESTED OVER $800,000 IN THIS CLASSIC TIMEPIECE AND ALTHOUGH SHE HAS BEEN SITTING FOR SENDIMENTAL REASONS, IT IS TIME TO LET HER GO!
DONT HESITATE ON THIS INCREDIBLE BUY, SHE IS ONE OF A KIND AND ONCE SHE SELLS, THERE IN NOT ANOTHER ONE IN THE WORLD LIKE HER.
This classic motor yacht had her last major restoration in 2002. In December 2002, she was entered in Ocean Reef Yacht Club’s vintage weekend and won the spectators choice award. Unfortunately, the boat has barely been used since. The current owners father passed and it was too difficult for him to take his fathers prized possession out.
“Chimera II” has metamorphosed over time into her current state of perfection. Originally built with the intention of adding a flybridge at a later date, Huckins installed the flybridge for her second owner in 1964, at the same time the salon was enclosed. In 1970, Huckins added drip rail wings along with dunnage boxes.
When the current owner bought her in 1985, she had another complete refit at Huckins where the Salon was doubled in size to eighteen and a half feet by ten feet so it could serve as a marvelous sitting room or ideal dining room for as many as ten guest. In addition, a perminate Bimini was added to the flybridge. Most importantly during the 1985 refit the bottom was unzipped and a new one put on along with lighter weight Cat 3208T Diesel engines.
“Chimera II”s last major refit occurred in 2002 in which all the plywood frames around the windows were faired with fiberglass, much of the boats original upholstery and drapery was replicated with the exact same Bruschwig chinoiserie-patterned cotton print. Her predominant red sets off the lipstick-red leather upholstered Art Deco Chairs copied from the great ocean liner “S.S. Normandie”.
Unique to Huckins Yachts, “Chimera II” has a mid ships engine room under the main salon with 18′ propeller shafts instead of the usual v-drive configuration.
This classic Huckins is located on the Miami River and is easy to see. She is currently getting a bottom job so that we will know that it has a clean bill of health.
