95′ BargeSkimmer/Vacuum 1940
This Skimmer/Vacuum Barge is 95’ x 30’ and equipped with two large vacuum pumps, 4 large vacuum tanks (12,000 gallons total), hull holding tanks, as well as transfer valves and piping. The vacuum pumps are operating and the valves, generator and pumps are working, which can be demonstrated. A portable air compressor (we have used a 750 CFM diesel compressor, but a smaller compressor would probably work just as well) will power the pumps and can “blow” liquids from the vacuum tanks to an external tank barge, or the worm pumps can continuously pump liquids from the bottom of the vacuum tanks to the barge’s holding tanks or to an external tank barge or shore facility. The system can be also run with a portable boiler or the existing on board boiler might be rebuildable. All known asbestos has been removed.
The barge was dry docked and hull painted within the past three years.
It is mobile, has large pumping capacity, and can be quickly fitted with hoses to pump continuously from a boom skimmer to tank barges. The large vacuum capacity could extract oil from marshes and other uneven surfaces much more effectively than the smaller capacity vacuum trucks now being fit on recovery barges. Its utility for open water skimming would make it highly desirable as a standby cleanup resource.
It is also useful in gas-freeing vessels in preparation for welding/burning repairs.
The machinery and house could be removed to make a single-skinned tank barge.
This barge was bought as scrap but reconditioned in 1975 at ship yard facilities.
